Laura Murton

Registered Psychotherapist

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a Canadian Certified Counsellor. I hold a Master’s degree from the University of Ottawa’s M.Ed Counselling Psychology program. I work with male, female, LGBTQ2 and adult individuals. My areas of particular interest are trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and those who are working through role and identity changes such as becoming a parent, experiencing life changes, illness, loss or other significant life experiences. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked directly with clients for over a dozen years in various social services agencies/programs. In all of my roles I have brought responsibility, integrity, and compassion.

I believe the relationship between therapist and client is the most important element for positive growth for the client and routinely receive feedback that my clients feel supported and respected in their work. I have a genuine, warm nature that enables me to develop therapeutic alliances quickly and effectively. My approach to therapy is Humanistic and I embody a Narrative therapeutic stance of genuine curiosity, collaboration and transparency. I see each client as capable of increased self-awareness and positive change. I value individuality and therefore tailor my approach specifically to each client using an eclectic variety of techniques from Narrative Therapy, Positive Psychotherapy, body-oriented therapies such as Focussing, and Mindful Self-Compassion, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and integrate interventions from a number of therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and brief therapies. I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Re-processing (EMDR), Reconsolidation Therapy and Brainspotting trauma therapies and frequently use these mind-body approaches with clients who have suffered both developmental and single-incident traumas. I’m also trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals, Couples and Families and use this approach in my work to help establish deeper communication and intimacy.

I am committed to lifelong professional development and am always attempting to learn new ways of working with clients depending on their presenting problem and style.

Katherine Wilson

Clinical Psychologist & Clinic Director

"I work with individual adults and couples, and I aim to provide a therapy environment that is authentic and down-to-earth. I focus on helping clients better understand themselves to then translate this insight into meaningful and lasting change. I am collaborative and integrative in my therapeutic approach, and use several evidence-based modalities in my work with clients, including emotionally-focused, compassion-focused, acceptance and commitment, cognitive-behavioural, and psychodynamic.
I have additional training in sexual health and enjoy working with clients, whether individually or as part of a couple, on issues related to sex and sexuality. With all clients, I aim to tailor my approach to reflect the uniqueness each person or couple brings to the therapy, and I use an informed socio-culturally sensitive lens to consider how a client’s identity and context may be affecting their current situation. Fundamentally, I am humanistic in my approach, and I believe that the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance in working towards personal and relational growth."
